HOW NOT TO BE A LAME DUCK!
DIFFERENTIATE THESE SHADES OF MEANINGS
INCAPABLE, INCAPACITATED, DEBILITATED, DISABLED
When having unqualified skill to do something you become incapable of completing it. In case of losing strength or power it means incapacitated; for instance the law just enacted looks incapacitated in dealing with corruption. In saying about a community it’s better with the usage of debilitated as hard drug have destroyed families and debilitated society. The term”disabled” is best suitable to denote a physical or mental limitation as these facilities were built for disabled people.
BEDRIDDEN, PARALYZED, PARALYTIC, LAME, HANDICAPPED, CRIPPLED
Describing a person unable to walk properly, it’s better to use “crippled” as they helped an old crippled man. Sickness or old age could confine a person to a bed and it’s described with “bedridden”. Any part of a body could be harmed in movement ability and “paralyzed” can be used to make it clear. This loss of ability can be treated as a disease as described with “paralytic”. Otherwise, the term “handicapped” is more common to say about the condition that markedly restricts physical, mental or social functions; so a special school is built for handicapped children as a way of treating disabled people well in society. To denote the removal from armed forces activities due to disability the term “invalid” is better for a concise meaning. Sometimes, people try to explain a piece of delicacy in appropriate words but they can’t because of lame or unconvincingly feeble demonstration.
